International Mother Language Day is on every February 21 since the year 2000. This UNESCO celebration encourages the preservation and protection of all languages used by people of the world. It also promotes awareness of cultural diversity, multilingual education and global citizenship. So we asked five Malaysians with multi-ethnic roots – Miss Universe Malaysia 2015 Vanessa Tevi Kumares, actors Susan Lankester and Gavin Yap, drag queen Shelah!!! and Sharyn Shufiyan, great-granddaughter of Malaysia's first Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman – if they can speak their mother language.
